This is a trek full of stunning scenery with a fantastic charm that brings a feeling of solitude and peace into a magnificent hike. Chogoria-Sirimon route brings the life of the most gorgeous & scenic views of the mountain, the trek passes two of the most iconic Lakes on Mount Kenya, Lake Ellis, and Lake Michaelson, considered the most mesmerizing point of this superb trek. Breathtaking views of the peaks, tarns, and fantastic endemic flora make it the prettiest high-altitude hike in East Africa.

Day 1

Nairobi- Meru Bandas

You will be transferred from JKIA or your hotel/residence in Nairobi to Mount Kenya.

The first day’s trek takes you up through the forest for about two hours arriving for check-in at the Kenya Wildlife Service gate then proceeding for about one and half hours to the campsite. If the weather permits you will generally get a good sense of the landscape from this point where the Afro-alpine Forest ends and the moorland begins.

Day 2

Lake Ellis Camp

This day you will start the hike with spectacular views of the rolling hills ahead and on a better clear day, a glimpse of the snow-capped peaks of Batian (5,199M) and Nelion (5,188M) high above.

The trek on this day will be relatively short and you should be able to arrive in the camp early in the afternoon to be able to enjoy the views around Lake Ellis.

An evening walks up to a nearby Mugi Hill can be an amazing way to end the day and hopefully will make your ascent a lot easier, if you also wish you can try your hand at a spot of fly- fishing in the lake.
